Match.com is a
popular dating website that was started in April of 1995. They were one of the
first websites of its kind, and helped to launch the popular online dating
craze that we see today. They have advanced from just serving the United States
to helping singles find the relationships they seek in 24 countries around the
world.
Their mission is simple--to help singles find their match,
without having to go through the horrors of traditional "bar scene"dating.
The website has several tools at its disposal to help narrow
down the pool of possible matches beyond age, sex, and location. They can also
narrow it down by shared interests, as well as simple things like whether a
profile has a photo or not.
It seem's as if the difference between a free account and a
paid account is how often your profile comes up, or if it becomes a
"highlighted" profile. This means that whenever your profile shows up during in
a search for someone, it is literally highlighted in a different color, in
order to draw the searching person's eye to it. They normally throw in a few
other extra's, and it usually only costs a little more a month.
Since it's inception, Match.com has grown to have over 20 million
members world wide, with a ratio of 49/51 men to women. They tout that their
success rate is higher than any other dating website, but that is an
unsubstantiated claim at this time.
One thing is for certain--Match.com has been around for 16
years, and it's still going strong.
